George and dragon

Hi All

Just keeping you updated on my regular restaraunt rounds in Stoke. I decided to go to the new George and Dragon lastnight for a Carvery...what a mistake I made unfortunately.

First impressions of the pub were fantastic, nice place, easy to get to, newly refurbished. So far it was ticking all the boxes. I sat down waiting for a waiter/waitress to come and take my food order, only to then find I had to go to the bar and order (there wasnt a single sign anywhere!)

Anyway, I eventually ordered my food and then I looked at the meat they were serving. Ok, so it wasnt a proper turkey off the bone, but it was still turkey I guess. The chef carving it seemed to me as though this was her first day, not only did her lack of experience show through, but she obviously didnt know what having a good appearence meant. My plate was cold and still had bit of dried on food, but I thought with it being a new place then it might get better, but it didnt.

I wondered where the vegetables were, only to find they removed the metal (like school dinner service) covers and it revealed the veg! Sadly, it was dry and not exactly warm. The gravy was nice, but obviously a packet mix of some sort.

Anyway, I ate what I could of the meal and thought I will try a pudding to wash it down with. I waited for a good 15 minutes for someone to come and get my plate, when eventually I took it to the carvery hatch myself! I ordered what I thought would be a nice slab of fudge cake, only to find it was a pre-made store bought one with a bit if squirty cream on the side - all that for £3, Im sorry, but iceland do much better desserts for only £1.

Also, I saw what kinds of people were working there. One woman was obviously not feeling herself, to be honest, she was loud, didnt look ver good and I tink she was drunk or something!

Drink prices were not the best with a small wine costing nearly £4 and from what my receipt told me, they charged me nearly £1.50 for the coke in my vodka, which didnt have any ice because the ice machine was apparently broken!

Here is my summary of the meal

Venue - 8
Service - 4
Food appearence - 3

Keep watching this space, I will let you know how I get on at other venues near you!
